WMIC 2022 Highlights

WMIC 2022 Highlights

WMIC 2022 was held in Miami, Florida on September 28th-October 1, 2022. This meeting highlighted a new educational program and served as a kickoff event for a series of sessions that will be hosted at WMIC in subsequent years. Sixty-six sessions were held over four days and included 180 oral presentations and presentations from senior leaders and researchers in the field. Five poster sessions featured over 400 posters displaying new science on a wide range of topics. To accommodate those still restricted by COVID regulations, WMIC 2022 included a virtual option, and each session was broadcast to attendees worldwide.

WMIC 2022 Award Winners

Gold Medal Award Winner

Anna Wu, PhD

Chair and Professor, Department of Immunology & Theranostics, City of Hope

The Gold Medal is the highest honor within the Society and is awarded for a major research contribution to the field of molecular imaging within the scope of the Society’s purposes.Anna Wu has received the Gold Medal due to her science of applying protein engineering to optimize the properties of antibodies for the in vivo delivery of radionuclides in preclinical models and patients, which has led to widespread acceptance of immunoPET as a versatile molecular imaging strategy.  The Gold Medal Award lecture was held during the Closing Ceremonies on Saturday, October 1 2022 and can be see on demand.

Roger Tsien Award Winner

Brian Zeglis, PhD

Associate Professor Hunter College of the City University of New York

The Roger Tsien award is given to an early-stage investigator at the level of assistant or associate professor who has made significant contributions to the field of molecular imaging in the area of chemical biology. This includes the creation and/or use of novel chemistries to probe biological systems using noninvasive imaging approaches. The WMIS awards committee selection was based largely on new syntheses of molecular probes, that have been used for a better understanding of the biology of health.Brian Zeglis has been chosen as the Roger Tsien Award winner due to his outstanding contributions to the field of molecular imaging, including the creation and use of novel chemistries to probe biological systems using noninvasive imaging approaches. The Roger Tsien Award lecture will be held on Saturday, October 1st from 9:00AM-9:30AM EST.
