CULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA, USA, July 14, 2026  — The World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Abhijit J. Chaudhari, Ph.D., Professor of Radiology at the University of California, Davis, as the new Vice-Chair Elect of the Image Data Science (IDS) Interest Group. Dr. Chaudhari is an internationally recognized leader in quantitative and computational imaging, medical imaging inverse problems, and machine learning, and will help advance the Interest Group’s mission of advancing innovation, rigor, and collaboration in image data science.

The Image Data Science Interest Group, led by Chair Dr. Arvind Pathak (Johns Hopkins University) and Vice-Chair Dr. Elena Zannoni (The University of Texas at Austin), advances the application of image data science across all areas of molecular imaging research. The interest group brings together researchers with expertise in artificial intelligence, computational modeling, and imaging informatics to develop innovative approaches that advance molecular imaging research and its clinical translation. The interest group also has an active program for mentoring trainees and junior investigators working in image data science.

Dr. Chaudhari shared his vision for the role:

"Image data science has enormous potential to advance molecular imaging, but realizing that potential requires methods that are rigorous, reproducible, and broadly accessible. I look forward to working with the IDS community to promote best practices in quantitative imaging, develop practical reporting standards, and create mentorship opportunities that empower the next generation of investigators."

Dr. Chaudhari’s appointment marks an exciting step forward for the IDS Interest Group as it continues to strengthen collaboration, promote methodological excellence, and support the responsible advancement of image data science in molecular imaging. His appointment will help further the group’s efforts to build an inclusive, innovative community dedicated to improving research and patient care through image data science.

"I am excited to welcome Dr. Chaudhari as Vice-Chair Elect of the IDS Interest Group. His expertise and collaborative leadership will be invaluable as we advance image data science within the WMIS and support our growing community of trainees and researchers."
