WORKSHOP
"Navigating the Path towards Industry Career Workshop"
Wednesday, September 11th, 2024
6:00PM-7:30PM
Description
This session will provide an overview on the pathway to transitioning into an industry career, drawing upon the wealth of experience from industry scientists at different career stages. Brief overviews on the following will be provided:
- Crafting an interview-worthy resume and cover letter
- Rizzing your interviewer
- Let’s negotiate: $alary, benefit$, $tock option$?
In these sessions, we aim to (1) how to use your academic experience to your advantage, (2) identifying and incorporating missing skills in our toolset, (3) expand our professional network by introducing industry scientists at different career stages, (4) learn more about the career paths of our colleagues, how they landed in industry, (5) gain tips from industry scientists for how to land an interview in industry (6) and the challenges they may have encountered along the way. (7) Perspectives from people leaving academia for industry and opportunities to go back will also be presented.
SPOTLIGHT SESSIONS
“Championing Women & Minorities Health: Power of Patient Advocacy”
Tuesday, September 10, 2024
11:45 AM – 1:15 PM
Description: This session will explore the critical role of patient advocacy and inclusion in shaping the preclinical and clinical molecular imaging/theranostics research landscape. We will delve into the significance of patient-orientated research approaches, the value of engagement with diverse patient perspectives, and strategies for building effective research teams from a funding agency perspective.
“Imaging and Therapy at Women’s Health”
Wednesday, September 11, 2024
1:15 PM – 2:45 PM
Description: This session will bring front and center the current status of imaging and therapy research in underexplored diseases and health conditions which primarily or exclusively affect women. Drawing from the pioneering spirit of physicist Marie-Curie, discussions will be elicited on how molecular imaging research can be harnessed in tandem with therapies in theranostic applications to tackle these diseases to improve women’s health. Disease areas to be explored will include: endometriosis, ovarian/uterine cancer, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, neurological disorders and reproductive health.
Anna Moore, PhD, Michigan State University: “Development of imaging methods for early detection of endometriosis and future theranostic applications“
Johanne Martel-Pelletier, PhD, University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM): “Predictive modelling that integrates biomarkers and magnetic resonance imaging data to predict the structural progression of knee osteoarthritis, a rheumatic disease“
Aisling Chaney, PhD, Washington University in St. Louis: “PET imaging biomarkers of inflammation in neurogenerative disease“
NETWORKING SESSIONS
“Young Scientist Breakfast”
Tuesday, September 10, 2024
7:30 AM – 9:00 AM
Join the Women in Molecular Imaging Network Interest Group and the Pride in Molecular Imaging subcommittee as we host an interactive roundtable event! Trainees will have the opportunity to chat with principal investigators, industry scientists, and editor experts at multiple stages of their career in the molecular imaging field. *This event is open to both female and male trainees.*
“Women Empowerment ‘WE’ Hour”
Thursday, September 12, 2024
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Join us for the Women Empowerment “WE” Hour. This is a discussion-based event targeted to those who identify as women, inclusive of racialized people, LGBTQ2S+, and those with disabilities. It’s an opportunity to have guided discussions in a judgment-free and inclusive safe space on salient topics impacting women in molecular imaging.
Learning objectives:
- To facilitate open and inclusive discussions, specifically focusing on the experiences and challenges faced by women and marginalized groups in the field of molecular imaging.
- To provide a supportive and judgment-free environment for participants to share their experiences, insights, and strategies for addressing issues (surrounding our topics this year).
- To foster networking opportunities and knowledge exchange among attendees from diverse backgrounds, to promote collaboration and mutual support in advancing gender equity and inclusivity in the field of molecular imaging.

WIMIN AUCTION
Thursday, September 12th, 2024
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
The WIMIN Art Auction is a social fundraising and network event held by WIMIN. Auction items are sourced throughout the year by WMIS members (and beyond) and auctioned off at the WMIC. All proceeds from the WIMIN portion of the auction go towards WIMIN initiatives for the next year.
WIMIN MEMBERSHIP
The WIMIN Interest Group will foster the career development and advancement of women in molecular imaging sciences through all stages of their careers, take an advocacy position within the WMIS on issues of importance to women in molecular imaging sciences, provide leadership for career development opportunities for women in molecular imaging sciences, and promote and recognize the professional and scientific accomplishments of women in molecular imaging sciences.
