Theranostics: Introduction

This section will focus on the topic of Theranostics – combining diagnostic imaging and therapeutic abilities – an area of research that has seen a dramatic growth in recent years. When nanoparticles or other small molecules possess capabilities for specific diagnostic imaging, and effective treatment, combined in a single agent, they are referred to as theranostic tools.

Zaver Bhujwalla gives an overview of her pioneering research on the role of the tumor microenviroment, choline metabolism, and COX-2 in cancer. For this research she was awarded the Gold Medal Award at WMIC 2017.
